In the spring 2007 we unveiled the first phase
of our gorgeous new look at the Four Seasons. We asked Graven Images
to help us achieve this: a design consultancy based in Glasgow,
which was also responsible for the interior of Tiger Lily in Edinburgh.
We gave them a brief: to bring the outside in the rich
textures and colours found in the loch, the trees, the landscape
generally and to weave in some Eastern influences (my other
passion). Among other things, they sourced fabulous, re-coloured
vintage pattern wallpaper from Cole & Sons (now up in the Oriental
Sitting Room), antique pineapple bronze lamps with scarlet silk
shades from Graham and Green and oversized upholstered Magellan
lounge chairs in the Opium Room. They recommended new hardwood floors
to complete the look. Our designer summed up the project: The
look is eclectic and energetic. And The Scotsman said: Past
the row of wellies by the door, there is a surprise in store
It was like walking into the pages of Elle Decoration. Visitscotland
has now recommended us for four stars. See hotel reviews.
The final phase of the hotel bedrooms was completed prior to our
opening weekend in 2008. The pressure was on, as we were fully booked
for a wedding. The oriental theme has been continued, with a great
palm pattern through black curtains and vivid red blinds, chinese
tub chairs and some wonderful harris tweed bed throws.
